The six skiers who survived an avalanche in the Castle Peak area of Truckee have been rescued Tuesday evening, the Nevada County Sheriff's Office announced in a Facebook post. The six backcountry skiers were initially told to shelter in place as rescuers from the Boreal Mountain Ski Resort and Tahoe Donner's Alder Creek Adventure Center battled "highly dangerous" weather conditions for hours to reach them.
